This project is a proposed edited volume with Palgrave Macmillan that explores the development of Just War theory from ancient Greece through Byzantium and into Late Medieval Italy. It aims to trace how key ethical concepts—such as moral struggle, divine providence, proportionality, and the ethics of war—evolved across major historical periods, including Homeric and classical Greece, the Byzantine Empire, and the Italian Peninsula.

The volume seeks to fill a gap in existing scholarship by connecting ancient Greek and Byzantine intellectual traditions with later Western legal and theological frameworks. It encourages contributions that engage with influential figures and texts such as Homer, Thucydides, Byzantine historians, and later thinkers like Augustine and Machiavelli, while also drawing parallels to contemporary geopolitical and ethical challenges.

In light of current global tensions and renewed debates about warfare and intervention, the project emphasizes the relevance of historical perspectives in understanding modern military ethics.
